The Reading Hut - Attuned to Every Child's Needs - Every Child a Reader

Orthographically Mapped Words and Stories: An Easier Way for Children to INSTANTLY Understand How Letters and Sounds Connect

The Reading Hut Ltd is dedicated to eradicating illiteracy by ensuring every child is screened for dyslexia risk before they are taught to read and spell, so that we ensure they are taught to read and spell in the way they learn. Support our campaign to offer free dyslexia risk screening for three-year-olds, with free ongoing support! We want to see this offered through Best Start.
We celebrate learning differences, support every child to become a confident reader before the end of KS1, and nurture a love of reading through the One, Two, Three and Away! series of more than 100 books. From the very beginning, children can SEE grapheme to phoneme correspondences in print, with 36 pre-readers providing essential early support. By the time they no longer need this mapping, our groundbreaking MyWordz® technology gives them instant access to any word they cannot yet decode or spell. Follow MappedWords.com to see orthographically mapped sight words.
This support, while reading real stories that they find engaging, helps all children within the neurodiverse classroom step confidently into the self-teaching phase, and then we watch them fly as they hop up the steps to a world in which reading equals joy and empowerment.

⭐Speedie Word Mapping Training

In just two hours, you will understand which children learn to read and spell with no instruction before they start school, how their brains do this naturally when the right conditions are in place, and what we can do to give other children the same foundations.

These children understand how speech and print connect because their brains do something very specific. This is what phonics programmes aim to support, but a decade of data in England, where this is the only permissible approach in Reception and KS1, shows that in a classroom setting at least 1 in 4 children struggle to understand how letters and sounds connect when taught through DfE-validated systematic synthetic phonics programmes, even with excellent teachers. Since 2016, 1 in 4 children have been unable to read and spell at expected levels by age 11.

To prevent the dyslexia paradox, certain conditions must be in place for all brains from birth to seven. Parents may be the key to addressing the existing SEN crisis. Children who struggle are often identified as having special educational needs. We see this differently. The phonics programmes did not accommodate their learning needs. We show parents what those needs are and how to meet them at home.

This training shows parents what can be done from birth to prevent any struggles with learning to read and spell. It makes visible what phonics programmes do not show, ensures children can recognise and spell hundreds of sight words in the way their brains understand, without memorising whole words, and uses this statistical learning to support fluent reading with comprehension through a series of 100 books that inspire children to want to read for pleasure.

Start from birth, and you can send your child to school able to read and spell without facing difficulties, regardless of how phonics is taught. Learn what teachers are not being taught about reading brains and about dyslexia. You will learn about Word Mapping Mastery® for ALL with The Neurodivergent Reading Whisperer®. Emma Hartnell-Baker is an expert in preventing the dyslexia paradox.

Mapped Sight Words

Proficient reading develops through regular and frequent exposure to words, which leads to the storage of strong representations of letter patterns for rapid retrieval (Castles et al., 2018). For the first time, children can instantly check how letters and sounds connect within tricky or irregular words using the Monster Spelling Piano® app and MyWordz® with MySpeekie® Word Mapping Mastery® technology.

SpeedieWordMapping.com The 1:1 Teaching System With Technology That Shows the Whole Code. Speedie Phonics for Dyslexic Students. An Easier and Faster Route Towards Self-Teaching.

Phonics programmes only teach about 100 grapheme to phoneme correspondences. There are more than 300 in the words children want to read and write in KS2. This hidden gap helps to explain why 1 in 4 children can’t read even if they pass the PSC. Speedie Readies: Show the Code closes this gap by making the full written code visible from the start.

Speedie Readies is a dual-route 1:1 early support system that helps high risk children build strong speech to print links so they can read and spell confidently before the end of Year 1.

From Term 2 of Reception, at risk children take part in ten minute sessions with a supported TA three or four times a week. This early approach prevents the dyslexia paradox because 1:1 support is provided between the ages of five and seven. There is no wait to fail approach.

Children explore words they choose because the bidirectional word mapping technology shows which letters are graphemes and which speech sounds they map to with Phonemies. Understanding the mapping of any word, regardless of prior phonics knowledge, reduces cognitive load and supports self teaching. It bridges the gap between the kick start of phonics and orthographic mapping that currently eludes 1 in 4.

Speedie Readies provides a library of over one hundred books written by an award winning children’s author. The orthographically mapped versions help children see how words are mapped in stories they enjoy, allowing them to store more words daily and feel intrinsically motivated to read.

The system includes the Monster Spelling Piano app for Core Code learning and MyWordz® with MySpeekie®, neuroinclusive technology. We embrace linguistic and neurodiversity.

MySpeekie® provides the world's first one screen AAC for non speaking children.

TAs using Speedie Readies support whole class speedie phonics teaching with the Ten Minute a Day dual-route pathway towards word mapping mastery outside the classroom. Parents support tech that shows the code because it strengthens word mapping skills and their child feels heard, included and empowered.
